New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno claimed the top spot as India’s best-selling car in November 2024, with 16,293 units sold. The popular hatchback has climbed up 5 positions from last year and last month as well. In October 2024, the Baleno was in 6th position with 16,082 units sold and in the 6th position in November 2023 with 12,961 units sold. The Baleno surpassed the Ertiga, which had held the position for the previous two months.

Notably, the top five models in November all recorded sales above 15,000 units, with very close margins separating them. Although, what separates the top and runner-up on this list is their respective price bracket reflecting the improved purchasing power of Indian consumers. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is priced between INR 6.6 lakh - 9.84 lakh ex-showroom whereas the Hyundai Creta starts at INR 11 lakh and goes up to INR 20.30 lakh. This mass-favorite compact SUV secured second place with 15,452 units delivered. Tata Motors saw its Punch and Nexon return to the top ranks, finishing third and fourth respectively.

While hatchbacks remain a staple in India’s car market, Maruti’s models dominate this segment, with just three hatchbacks making it into the overall top 10. In contrast, and while SUVs have ruled the roost in India for a while now, it is no surprise that the list is now largely populated by utility vehicles (UVs), which have gained significant traction. Mahindra’s Scorpio, a regular contender in the top 10, has seen its sales rise sharply following the launch of the Scorpio N. In October 2024, Mahindra sold 15,667 units of the Scorpio and bagged the 8th spot on the top 10 selling cars in India for October 2024. Additionally, the launch of the Thar Roxx has further boosted volumes for Mahindra, allowing the Thar lineup (combining both 3-door and 5-door models) to outsell rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Bolero among others.>
