TVS RT-XD4 engine platform

TVS Motor Company, a prominent player in the two and three-wheeler market, introduced the TVS RT-XD4 engine platform on the first day of TVS MotoSoul 4.0. The platform draws inspiration from TVS's racing legacy. The first engine built on this platform is the TVS RT-XD4 300.

“The TVS RT-XD4 is a major milestone, the result of our focus on creating unique, compelling, TVS-kind of riding experience. Conceptualised, designed and developed in-house, at our R&D Centre in Hosur, the TVS RT-XD4 is a demonstration of our engineering and research capability. Over the last several years, TVSM has been setting benchmarks in riding excellence, made possible by decades of exposure to the race track, extensive user insights, ahead-of-the-curve investments, and robust tech and digital capability. We will continue to bring about mobility solutions that can transform the quality of life of people across the world,” stated Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director, TVS Motor Company.

Features

The TVS RT-XD4 engine platform employs four key dual technologies: dual overhead cams with a downdraft port for enhanced performance; a dual oil pump with a split chamber crankcase for optimised lubrication and torque; a dual cooling jacket cylinder head with water and oil jackets for superior cooling; and a dual breather system to minimise oil contamination and consumption.

The engine incorporates additional features for refined performance and rider comfort, including plasma spray-coating, superior thermal management, a high inertia shell bearing crankshaft, and a helical gear driven balancer system. The platform is designed for high efficiency, compatibility with ethanol-blended fuels, reduced emissions, and improved reliability.

The TVS RT-XD4 300 engine, the first on this platform, boasts a displacement of 299.1 cc, a single-cylinder, forward-inclined configuration, a power output of 35 PS at 9,000 rpm, and 28.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. It features a liquid-cooled system with dual cooling (water and oil jackets), a 6-speed gearbox, a ride-by-wire throttle system, and an assist and slipper clutch.
