Ajay Jagga called for imposition of congestion tax or fee on commercial vehicles entering Chandigarh from outside.
In a letter to Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, city-based lawyer Ajay Jagga called for imposition of congestion tax or fee on commercial vehicles entering Chandigarh from outside.

Jagga pointed out that the government of Delhi planned to impose traffic congestion tax to ease traffic. He also cited the example of the Supreme Court approving the levy of green cess on trucks passing through the National capital by the National Green Tribunal for four months on experimental basis.

He suggested imposition of congestion charge or green cess on commercial vehicles coming to Chandigarh from outside to ease congestion and pollution.

“This will generate income apart from reducing congestion, saving fuel and environment. The money earned could be spent on maintaining the beautiful city, which is fast losing its original character and for providing tourist facilities,” the letter said.
