To build public support, Uber displayed its shuttle buses at the Bengaluru Tech Summit last monthUber is
engaging with the Karnataka government to secure regulatory approval for introducing its successful shuttle bus service in Bengaluru, following its positive performance in Kolkata and Delhi. The company plans to deploy 200 air-conditioned buses along the city's tech corridor on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to provide a viable alternative to private vehicles and help alleviate congestion.
As per a New Indian Express report, the proposed shuttle service will operate at intervals of 2-3 minutes, allowing commuters to pre-book seats and enjoy convenient pick-up and drop-off points along the route. This initiative aims to reduce the growing traffic woes on ORR, an area with a high concentration of tech companies and workers. The service is expected to become a much-needed solution to the city's traffic challenges, particularly in Bengaluru's busy tech parks.
Uber’s shuttle service has already gained traction in other cities like Kolkata and Delhi, and the company is hopeful it will soon receive approval to begin operations in Bengaluru. The company views this service as crucial for addressing Bengaluru's worsening traffic situation, which it considers even more pressing than in cities like Delhi and Kolkata due to the city's vast tech industry.
To build public support, Uber displayed its shuttle buses at the Bengaluru Tech Summit last month, where the company shared details of the service with local government officials, including IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge. Reportedly, the company is now awaiting the government’s nod to begin operation.
