The sunroof segment in India is projected to grow significantly, with market expansion estimates reaching 40% by 2029.
Inalfa Gabriel Sunroof Systems Private Limited (IGSS), a partnership between Inalfa Roof Systems and Gabriel India Limited, is set to expand its manufacturing operations to meet the growing demand for sunroofs in India. The company, which already operates a facility near Chennai, has announced plans to establish new plants in Northern and Western India, closer to major automotive hubs.

Rising demand drives expansion
The announcement was made by Anjali Singh, Executive Chairperson of the Anand Group, during the first-anniversary celebration of IGSS’s Chennai facility. The plant, which produced 130,000 sunroofs in 2024 alone, is nearing full capacity. Singh emphasized the company’s aim to address increasing demand by positioning operations closer to their clients.

“To meet the rising demand for sunroofs due to the greater premiumisation of the auto sector, IGSS is looking to expand beyond Chennai to other auto hubs, namely the West and North,” she said.

Chennai plant reached full capacity
The Chennai plant currently supplies sunroofs to Hyundai Motor India and Kia India, reflecting the growing preference for premium automotive features. According to IGSS Chairman Jagdish Kumar, the demand for sunroofs is being driven by the popularity of SUVs, enhanced highway networks, and advancements in sunroof technology, such as panoramic views and smart glass systems.

The sunroof segment in India is projected to grow significantly, with market expansion estimates reaching 40% by 2029. "IGSS is well-positioned to leverage this demand and continue its leadership in the sunroof sector," Kumar noted.

India’s role in the global automotive industry
The expansion also aligns with India’s growing prominence in the global automotive industry. Georges Andary, CEO of Inalfa Roof Systems, described India as "one of the largest and most dynamic automotive markets," emphasizing its strategic importance in Inalfa’s global growth strategy.

IGSS’s Chennai facility was established in response to Tamil Nadu’s investor-friendly policies, enabling the company to cater to India’s burgeoning passenger vehicle market. With the upcoming expansions, IGSS aims to strengthen its presence in the country and contribute further to the evolving automotive landscape.
