The Medical Mobile Unit is designed to bring essential healthcare services directly to people in underserved regions.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited India's first state-of-the-art JBM Electric Medical Mobile Unit (MMU) in New Delhi on December 20, 2025. The MMU, designed and developed in India, supports the PM Jan Aarogya Yojna (PM-JAY) initiative to improve healthcare access in rural areas. It functions as a "Hospital on Wheels," part of the National Health Mission (NHM), serving underserved communities.

The MMU was showcased to dignitaries including Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences Director Dr. S.K. Sarin, and JBM Group leaders S.K. Arya and Nishant Arya. The unit aims to deliver healthcare to remote areas, aligning with PM-JAY's goal of enhanced accessibility.

The purpose of MMU

The Medical Mobile Unit is designed to bring essential healthcare services directly to people in underserved regions. This initiative is part of the National Health Mission. The MMU offers primary care, diagnostics, and emergency aid. It is equipped with staff, medicines, advanced medical equipment, and teleconsultation capabilities. It will reach people who have difficulty accessing traditional healthcare facilities.

Addressing limited healthcare access challenges

The MMU addresses the challenge of limited healthcare access in rural and semi-rural areas. This initiative seeks to bridge the healthcare gap and improve overall health outcomes for these communities. The unit’s mobility allows it to reach remote locations, expanding the reach of essential healthcare services.

The showcased MMU is India's first state-of-the-art model. JBM Electric Vehicles, a leader in e-mobility solutions, developed the unit. This mobile unit is equipped with a range of medical equipment and services to address various health needs. Some of the equipment includes a defibrillator, fibroscan, bio-chemistry analyzer, centrifuge, blood transport box, and ECG machine.
