This is the second such push from the corporation for the FASTag project.
New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has identified 11 parking sites where the FASTag project will be implemented.

According to officials, tenders have been invited by a private agency to digitise the operations at these parking sites, which include the management and collection of parking charges through a radio frequency identification system. The parking sites will be allotted for three years, extendable by two years on mutual agreement.

While FASTag will be used for four-wheelers, two-wheelers will be charged through a quick response code or UPI. Sensors will be installed at entry and exit points to read the FASTags, and arrangements will be made so that billing and payment systems facilitate seamless transactions. The agency will also be required to monitor and manage the RFID/FASTag system on a day-to-day basis to ensure accurate and reliable data collection and processing.

"Ensuring availability of customer support to address user inquiries, complaints and technical issues all are covered in the planning and tenders. To reduce any downtime and ensure the best performance of the system, regular maintenance work will have to be carried out. This is certainly a push towards going digital. We are trying to start the process at these parking sites and are working on other sites also is going on," informed an MCD official.

This is the second such push from the corporation for the FASTag project. Earlier last year, the corporation did the same for 20 other sites. The latest list of parking sites includes parking areas near the Iskon Temple in Sector 25 Rohini, Y-block near the DTC bus stand Mangolpuri, F-block park in Sector 16 Rohini, near Ryan Shalom Montessori School Rohini Sector 16, commercial complex Rohini Sector 8, opposite the mosque in Sector 16 of Rohini, B-3 block in Nand Nagri, near Jafrabad West Gorakh Park Extension, Asaf Ali Road, Q-block Mangolpuri bus stand, and a multilevel stack car parking in Fatehpuria.

There is no paid parking in residential areas, but still, on-street parking is rampant across the city. According to the plan, MCD is thinking about introducing a concept of 'Prohibitive Parking Charges' in all non-parking zones. Under this, MCD will be allowed to prosecute the owner of a vehicle parked in the zone to be penalised under the Motor Vehicle Act. However, this proposal is yet to get approval from the MCD.
